Over the past year, or so I’ve started making portraits of strangers — something I never thought I’d be doing. I was inspired by the beautiful work of London-based photographer Gabrielle Motola, and it’s taken me on a surprising journey of self-discovery. Approaching someone I don’t know for a conversation and a portrait isn’t easy, but it’s both grounding and exhilarating. Most people I ask say yes, and we always part ways with a smile. It’s become one of the most meaningful parts of my time with a camera.
